Update 01: 2018-09-20

Welcome to part two of this series, looking at all the fresh film stocks still being produced today. In part one I covered every film stock from ADOX to Dubblefilm. With those 18 stocks out of the way, this article will be covering a little over 30 stocks from Ferrania to Hillvale – assuming that Fuji doesn’t discontinue more in between me writing this and publishing it.

Fingers crossed, eh?

As with part one, each film is sorted by manufacturer then film stock; and there’s a mass of film data included for each one. More detail will be coming in due course, as I complete my database of edge markings and reciprocity characteristics. In the meantime, please feel free to submit any data and sample images you may have using the form linked throughout this page.

Here’s what’s covered in part 2:

FILM Ferrania films

Founded in 1923, the original Ferrania ceased trading in late 2012, some four years after its then President announced the cessation of film product manufacture. Ferrania was acquired in 2013 by FILM Ferrania s.r.l. and in late 2014 the “new” Ferrania successfully completed their Kickstarter campaign, “100 More Years of Analog Film”, in an effort to rebuild, repair and restart the parts of original film production facility.

The company has been beset with difficulties, which have resulted in the original crowdfunding campaign timeline to be revised numerous times but in February 2017 the company announced the reintroduction of FERRANIA P30. The company still remains committed to restarting the production of both color negative and color reversal (slide) films.

Fujifilm films

Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd. was established in 1934 with the aim of being the first Japanese producer of photographic films. Over the following 10 years, the company produced photographic films, motion-picture films and X-ray films. In the 1940s, Fuji Photo entered the optical glasses, lenses and equipment markets.

Unlike its main competitor Kodak, Fujifilm built an expectation of the decline of film as a mass market photographic medium into its business. The company succeeded in making the transition to digital imaging but sadly continues its exit from the photographic film space at speed. At the time of writing, Fuji just announced the discontinuation of its last remaining black and white film stock, NEOPAN ACROS 100.

Ending part two

Fifty plus stocks down and we’ve only just scratched the surface. Part three covers I to J – that’s ILFORD to Japan Camera Hunter.

If you think I’ve missed something, please do let me know in the comments below. Just remember, these are films which are still in production, not still available to purchase…maybe there should be another list for that 😉

Finally, thanks (and due credit) to LomographyCamera Film Photo, Washi and B&H for the images.

Thanks for reading,

  1. Sad to see Neopan go 🙁 I love that film.

  2. I’ve heard rumours that Fuji 160NS and now Fuji Industrial 100 have been discontinued..

    Great series anyway. Excellent resource.

    1. That’s correct-ish! 160NS is now gone and although both Industrial films were marked as discontinued, 100 has made a comeback. The problem with these two specifically is that they’ve never been officially announced to the public so Fuji can be more opaque than usual about their status. Thanks for the feedback, it’s really appreciated – the more you know!

  3. As of May 1, 2018, Fuji Acros 100 black and white film is listed as “discontinued,” or “unavailable” at all the major on-line stores in the US.

    1. The film is not officially discontinued until October 2018 according to guidance from Fuji. The film is still available to purchase in other territories. Thanks for the input, Scott.

  4. Fomapan isn’t DX encoded (at least in the UK).
    Neither was the original batch of Ferrania P30 — don’t know about the recent stuff they may have added it.

  5. Also: Fotoimpex CHM 100 & 400 – Produced by Harman Technology and similar to Kentmere 100/400
    Holga 400, Rebranded Fomapan 400 – mainly in USA.

    1. The implication of the blurb is that CHM is like “old” (pre-Harman?) Kentmere.

      1. The kentmere company which Harman bought in 2007 only produced photo paper. Harman introduced the branded films in 2009 originally as a budget option for the US market. It’s probably based on the pan 100/400 selected markets film. Likewise Rollei RPX, Agfa photo APX and Oriental Seagull.

  6. velvia 100f discontinued 2012;
    superia 200 discontinued may 2017 very little stock left;
    velvia 50 sheet film discontinued and velvia 100 sheet film 4×5 only (plus 120, 135);
    pro 160 ns sheet film discontinued 2016, 120 discontinued uk late 2017 some stock. never sold in USA. Still available in Asia and elsewhere in Europe but for how long?
    fuijicolor 100 also sold in retail packs – Asia only.

    1. Fuji often discontinue films last in their home market. So;
      Velvia 100F. 120 discontinued in Japan 2015. Sheet film available in Japan only. (all formats disc. 2012 in Europe/USA)
      Superia 200 discontinued globally may 2017.
      Velvia 50. Sheet film Japan only. (disc 2012 Europe/USA) 135/120 available globally
      Velvia 100. 8×10″ sheet film Japan only. 135/120 and 4×5 available globally
      Pro 160 NS Sheet film discontinued 2016 globally. 120 available Europe (not UK) and Japan.
      Provia 100F 135 plus 120 and Sheet film available globally
      Fujicolor 100 retail in Japan/Asia only
      Fujicolor c200 Europe/USA not Japan
      400CN this is reported as being developed with ilfords tech input. Not sure it’s made by them though.
      Some retailers such as Maco obtain Japan only stock for European sale e.g Natura 1600, stock only.

  7. Velvia 100F? I don’t think so…

    1. David, please enlighten me.

  8. I was under the impression that Fuji Pro 160NS was discontinued (at least according to my main film supplier).

    1. Hi James, it’s still here although only in 120, 4×5 and 8×10 and only readily available in Japan. 35mm was discontinued across the board a while back.

  9. @filmferrania Loving this series
