This week I happily received a shipment of 10 rolls of this much-anticipated film stock. This first roll was shot in early afternoon on a day with cloudy sun. I thought the film would pair well with this powder blue Cadillac. It is passengered by a skeleton flipping the Johnny Cash finger to passersby.
I could not properly capture him from the angle of the sun. Next time. My results at box speed mirrored those from Mr. E’s experiment. I relied on the Olympus 4ti’s Off-The-Film metering for its accuracy to measure the shadows. Regardless, the shadows did not retain much detail, falling to inky blacks. I enjoy the retro and gritty feel of the results nonetheless.
For my next few rolls I will experiment with overexposing the film by one and two stops. I developed the roll in Kodak HC-110, dilution H (12 minutes at 20C, agitation for the first minute, then 3 agitations every minute thereafter).
Many of the images from the roll failed to retain shadow detail and exhibited pronounced grain. I am interested to see the film’s performance from varying degrees of overexposure. I will develop the next rolls in Kodak D-76 and then Rodinal.
