No, it’s not April Fools Day, Lomography announced today that they’re cutting the price of most of their 120 format film stocks, some of which are upwards of 30%

From their press release:

We cherish the spontaneity, speed and instinctive nature of analogue photography. However, we’ve noticed a growing reservation within the analogue community when it comes to the distinctive and charming 120 format.

They go on to jokingly (?) declaring 120 film an endangered species which, based on what I see in my local stores, isn’t half wrong.

The price cuts are SIGNIFICANT enough to warrant me writing the word in all caps. Here are their USD adjustments. “Old price” is shown as their SRP and may differ from store to store:

NOTES:

  • I reached out to Lomography directly to confirm that neither Lady Grey 400 or Color Slide X-Pro 200 are included in this price adjustment.
  • I can also confirm that this pricing is intended as permanent and you’ll see “SALE” notices on their websites as a visual queue to draw attention to the new prices. I’ve been informed they expect to update this in due course.

Lomography has long been associated with the accessible end of the film photography spectrum — accessible kit, films, and pricing. Affordability is no longer something anyone can say of the vast majority of photographic film stocks, and it’s great to see a company like Lomography making adjustments in the opposite direction from pretty much anyone I can think of.

The world has changed significantly post-COVID, so it’s hard to say if these price changes are indicative of a larger (future) trend by the likes of Kodak, ILFORD, Fujifilm, et al. It’s also hard to say if these prices are sustainable for Lomography but I, at least, applaud the effort.

I’m also running out to grab some film before you all get there 🙂

Ps. Your local (small) dealer may or may not already be respecting Lomography’s current or new suggested retail pricing. They’re probably also struggling with the reality of increased costs, so give them a break and worst case, find another supplier. There are a few still out there, I think 😉

Pps. A word on affiliate links: I don’t use them and won’t make any money from anything you buy 🙏

  1. It’s good to see some activity on the site! It has been a long time!!! Louis.

  2. I hope the same drops of price also on the big brands like ilford and Kodak.

  3. Is this a permanent (i.e. not a limited-time sale) drop? I thought from my (admittedly very quick skim) reading of the email that it was a time limited thing, but I may have simply misread/made unfounded assumptions.

If it’s a permanent reduction then that is a good thing, though the flagging on their site indicates a “sale” price…
