This just in: official confirmation from Harman technology Limited, owners of ILFORD Photo and producers of ILFORD FP4 PLUS, HP5 PLUS, Delta family, and other black and white films, papers and chemistry, that 2021’s price adjustments are coming into effect.
The adjustments are effective immediately and depending on where you are in the world, you may see prices increases, no changes, or even decreases (hence leading this article with adjustment, as opposed to rise).
I recently spoke to Harman technology about the adjustments, who told me:
“We know that news of price rises are never welcome and are not something any business does lightly.
Unfortunately at the current time, we are not alone in experiencing increasing cost pressures and availability challenges, in particular with raw materials, which which has made a price increase unavoidable.”
They went on to say:
“As always we strive to keep prices at their lowest possible level to avoid the impact on customers and keep film photography and darkroom printing as accessible to as many people as possible.
As such, we hope that the impact on most customers will be minimal.”
For specific details on how your local dealer is affected by this recent update — if you are at all, that is — please contact them directly for specific pricing. Based on conversations I’ve had with several dealers in Europe, North America, and Asia, we can expect increases to be between 5-8% (if passed on).
HARMAN / ILFORD is not the only film producer affected by the need to make regular price adjustments but I will say this: they are among the most transparent and for that, I thank them.
