In 1956 I took my first photographs with an Agfa Box 6×9 camera from my mother and started to like and love taking photographs and making pictures. Since then I have tried and used all kinds of cameras from 35mm, 6×6 to 4×5, panorama from 24×56 to the Seitz Roundshot 360°.

With my first digital Nikon Coolpix I discovered the new digital world without all the “limits” of analog photography by using all kinds of treatment and filters in Photoshop. A months ago I got an analog 6×12 pinhole camera and after that a very old dream came true and I bought a Hasselblad 903 SWC – and the analog fever got me 🙂

A few weeks later I got a Fotoman 6×17 and two weeks ago I got a 60 year-old 6×9 Brooks-Plaubel Veriwide 100 with a Schneider Super-Angulon 47mm f/8 lens. Last weekend I loaded the Veriwide with Bergger Pancro 400 and took a train to Hamburg to take pictures of the Docklands.

All shots were hand-held at 1/30 second and f/22 with an orange 22 filter. I developed the film in Kodak D-76 1+1 at 20°C for 17 minutes, with normal agitation a few times every minute for the first 5 minutes, and later every 4 minutes. This was followed by a stop bath and normal fixing in ILFORD Rapid Fixer.

After the developing process, I took my first look at the film. A very exciting moment, at least for me after all the years with digital! After a few hours, I could not wait any longer, I started cutting and scanning (with an Epson Perfection V800 and Silverfast at 2,400 PPI) and waited for the great moment when I saw those first results on my screen.

I think I’ve got the analog virus 🙂

Regards,

~ Dierk

  1. Dierk, you should (really!) have a go with the 6X12 pinhole camera at this site. That can bring you fantastic details. I am working with pinhole for more than 15 years now, and it keeps surprising me with unexpected beauty. Extremely wide, extremely close up, extremely depth of field, and the added bonus of long exposures that will portray the clouds rushing through the sky. Hopefully this was enough advertising for pinhole 🙂

    1. thanks, Danny,
I use pinhole since 2008. Digital with a pinhole cap on the Nikon D3 and now on the Sony A7RII. To get better resolution I stitched many shots, some even hand held with higher ISO. And I made portraits with flash.
Since a few months I have the Zero image 612, but I am very disappointed of the severe light fall off at the sides.
So I got the RealitySoSubtle 6×17 with the curved ‘sensor’ two months ago 🙂

  2. thanks very much Ian and Stig!
I wrote this some time ago and in the meantime I used the Rollei Infrared and Superpan 200 a lot. These films are IR sensitive and offer the opportunity to shoot normal B&W and IR B&W on the same film roll!

Here is the album in flickr with all my images with this interesting camera:
