On a sunny day in July 2022 while walking through Spitalfields market in London I spied a group of people in the distance. It was then I heard the mellifluous tones I would later come to recognise as music to Tango to. It was, for me at least, a dream come true. I could get […]

My first film camera was a 110 which was a present when I was 14. But I moved away from film when digital seemed to be the way forward. Then I got back into film photography in December 2017 when I bought my Nikon F2 and I love it. When doing street photography I will always take my Nikon F2 and the 50mm F/1.4 AI-S lens. Ilford's FP4 film is my favourite by far but I do like to experiment.
Everything changes: An homage to East London’s Brick Lane
Selling goods this way — on rickety wooden tables or simply strewn on the floor — won’t be around forever. It’s too old-fashioned. A short walk away shows an inkling of what will happen; Old Spitalfields market has modernized. Restaurants, coffee stalls, and even the odd designer clothing shop line its edges and if you’re […]
Documenting the UK’s #BlackLivesMatter protests: London & Hitchin, June 6-7th 2020
Across one weekend in early June, I attended and documented two Black Lives Matter protests here in the UK. As a white man, I might not be able to fully understand what black people specifically have gone through as a result of decades of systemic racism but I can listen and learn from their experiences […]
My First Roll… Of self-developed black and white film (Kodak T-Max 100, Nikon F2)
I’m going to push the definition of this series but bear with me. First, I’d like to say that this was a disaster but also a learning experience. Like all good stories, this one has a bit of a background to it so let’s start with the question, why get into self-developing film at all? […]
5 Frames… With Silberra U400 (EI 1600 / 35mm format / Nikon F2)
As part of my EMULSIVE Secret Santa 2019 present, I got a roll of Silberra U400. Well, this is different, I thought. I had used Silberra film before (their Pan 160 looks very nice, if you’re interested) but not the U400, so I was intrigued. In case you don’t know, Silberra is a Russian company […]
5 Frames… With CineStill 50D (EI 50 / 35mm format / Nikon F2)
Whenever I go out shooting with film, which seems to be a lot these days, I take my trusty Nikon F2 and the 50mm F/1.4 AI-S. Can I just say that this camera is a bit of a beast?
Travelogue: Following in Vivian Maier’s footsteps, my trip to Chicago
Traditionally when I go away on holiday, I tend to pick the less touristy places. That way I can get a better feel for a country and its people.
