5 Frames With… Kodak Tri-X 400 (35mm / EI 400 / Olympus Stylus Epic) – by Fabien Seguin
I moved to Taipei, Taiwan, about one and a half years ago, after seven years in China, two years in Canada and one year in Morocco. I’m originally from France.
When in China, I was shooting a lot and mainly in the streets, probably because the density of the population there makes the streets a place where there is always something to look at, always several stories going on at the same time. I stopped shooting when I was in Canada and Morocco, partly because the streets were much less lively, but also because I started writing again; creativity was poured on white sheets instead of films.
Moving back to Asia triggered my photography bug again.
I bought an Olympus Stylus Epic at a photo store right down the corner, put a roll of Kodak TriX inside and I instantaneously felt better, I recovered that power that enables you to cut into the real and preserve something out this infinite flow of things and people.
Kodak Tri-X 400 is a film I have extensively used in all formats before. I know I can trust it and I know how to develop it to get the best results, usually rolling the tank in my bathtub. Of course with an Olympus Stylus Epic you cannot really « shoot for the shadows » (which is the key rule when you shoot negatives, both color and B&W), but I just love the camera for its tiny size and sharp lens. It has everything I need, even flash, and it’s always in my pocket, no matter where I go.So there are many more moments and shapes that are going to be cut from the flow of Taipei in the coming months thanks to this tiny shiny bug in my pocket.

Getting your 5 frames featured couldn't be simpler: all you need to do is send over 5 frames shot on a single roll of film using the same lens and camera combination. Large format shooter, not a problem! As long as the shots all came from the same film stock, camera and lens, you're good to go.
