In 2018, E-6 Processing is expensive. I shot this roll back in April and after shooting it, it sat in my freezer for 2 months, because I can’t afford to get too many rolls of E-6 processed at once. My E-6 film usually “marinates” in a ziploc bag in my freezer for 1-2 months before I have it processed.

I shoot transparency/slide film for nearly all my work. I started out in film photography a year ago with the typical colour negative films like Fuji C200, Kodak Portra, Ektar, ColorPlus, etc., then I one day tried a roll of Agfa CT Precisa 100 (which just so happens to be rebranded Fujifilm Provia 100F) and I was hooked, there was no going back.

I will never forget the shock of seeing those razor sharp images filled with colour backlit by a sea of white light in the dark.

Fuji Provia 100F is probably my favorite. It’s very versatile and works with any kind of subject. It can be pushed 1 stop (EI 200) in normal light with only a minor increase in contrast. It can also be pushed up to 2 stops (EI 400) however, I prefer to rate it at 100 for a 2 stop push.

These 5 images are shot normally at 100, with some bracketed towards underexposure. I normally use an 81A warming filter with Provia, but the warm evening light makes it unnecessary in this case. The way Provia 100F renders colour leans toward cool tones, it works beautifully in certain situations where Velvia would be a little too “over the top”, especially blues, which are the most beautiful I have ever seen. I shot these frames on my Minolta X-700 with motor drive 1+,  MD 50mm f/2.0 + Tamron 103A 70-210mm f/3.8-4 lenses.

  1. These are lovely. I’m a big Provia fan (probably because it’s the only transparency choice for now in 120 (Velvia is too cartoonish for me). Do you have Instagram or Flickr?
