  1. EM, I saw Gregory’s question, happened to know the answer, decided to post since many folks aren’t clear on the topic, and I’m happy to help.

  2. While the film is ISO 400, the R72 filter requires adjustment of the exposure and varies somewhat due to lighting conditions. The typical filter factor for the R72 is 16 (4 f-stops) and in this example, the photographer chose a filter factor of 32 (5 f-stops). Thus, by setting the light meter ISO to 12 (5 f-stops below ISO 400, or 400/32=12.5), the desired additional light was provided to the film.
