I’ve been a long-time user of Lomography’s DigitaLIZA 35mm and 120 film masks. They work great on my Epson Perfection v750 and keep film generally flatter than Epson’s normal film masks — even when scanning 35mm film shot on a 6×12 format camera or 6×17 format. In terms of value for money and performance, they’re pretty difficult to beat.

Joining the family today (and shipping in May 2022) are Lomography’s latest additions: two new film scanning Kits dubbed the Lomography DigitaLIZA+ and DigitaLIZA Max. They’re being touted as all-in-one film scanning kits for 35mm and 120 film and are effectively scanning masks with a built-in backlight panel and a removable spirit level to level your camera/phone.

The kits are advertised as being able to scan 35mm film (full-frame) 35mm with sprockets (looks to be slightly wider than X-Pan size), 127 and 120 format (appx 6×7). I’ve reached out to Lomography for clarification and will update this article when I have a reply.

The DigitaLIZA+ kit comes with the 35mm and 120 masks, plus a backlight and retails for just under $75 USD the DigitaLIZA Max includes the same holders/masks as the + version, alongside a smartphone stand for $99 USD. I’m just (personally starting to dip into camera scanning film myself, so this announcement couldn’t come at a better time, and I’ve just placed my order for the DigitaLIZA+ kit. I hope to report back in June once I’ve had mine for a while and can write a competent review of it. Sample scans from Lomography follow — click to view full-screen.

The DigitaLIZA+ and DigitaLIZA Max film scanning kits are available now in the Lomography Online Shop for preorder. Estimated delivery and availability in selected retail stores nationwide: May 2022

  1. I’m confused. These Lomo devices need a dedicated scanner (you mentioned the Epson) to work? If not, how do you set them up for camera “scanning”?

    1. The original offerings from Lomo were designed to be used with a flatbed scanner (or technically over a separate backlight and with a copy stand and camera), whereas these new options come with a backlight and based on the pictures looks to have a copy stand so are out of the box configured for camera scanning.
