This was from my 2nd roll of Lomography’s new Lomochrome Purple XR 100-400.  I had shot my first roll in Malta and liked what it could do with colours.  I was heading to Brighton for the afternoon with the family for lunch and a look around.  Although it was not a photography trip I took two rolls of film with me, the Lomography Purple and some Kodak EKTACHROME 100VS.

Leaving the house, I hadn’t decided what mood I was in or indeed if I would have the opportunity to take photos, I also didn’t want to load film only for it to get ‘stuck’ in the camera.  I eventually opted to risk it and load the Purple, as I was curious about how it would be with the colours and scenes in Brighton.

After lunch we went for a walk along the seafront, where I shot all 36 exposures in under 30 minutes (apparently film slows you down), trying to capture either colourful scenes, images of Brighton or ideally a mixture of both.

Normally when I have seen people shoot this film there is a tendency to focus on flowers and nature, I wanted to try something different.  I think the film worked well in this situation.  Being by the sea, the contrasts of colour and light really brought out a retro postcard feel to the images.

All pictures were taken using a Nikon F6 with an AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D lens. The film was rated at 250 ISO.
