After shooting strictly with a point and shoot camera, I was gifted a Minolta XG-M and Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm f/1.7 kit by a friend. I found myself reaching for film instead of digital for my personal work more and more after that. Digital was beginning to bore me, editing had began to feel cumbersome, all I wanted to do was shoot and forget about the rest. Film had given me that.

A few weeks after that, a fellow film shooter and good friend of mine, suggested we go photograph the seller stands and thrill rides of a local flea market near Fort Worth, TX. I packed a few rolls of Kodak Portra 400 and made our way there.

After walking around the stands filled with your usual flea market items, we arrived at the thrill ride section of the market. The colors immediately stood out to me. Weathered and fading, the reds, greens, and yellows complimented the blue sky perfectly. While shooting, I got a strong sense of nostalgia from being here.

I would come here as a child with my family to walk around and look for Nintendo 64 games, buy knock off yu-gi-oh cards, then stop by the rides to pick up a funnel cake and turkey leg. Being there, capturing a childhood memory on film felt special, almost like I had temporarily travelled back in time.

I metered using the Sunny 16 rule and these have been some of my favorite images on film as of late.
