After deciding to take a city break in Rome, Italy – together with my mother – I knew immediately what camera and what films I would take with me.
I was lucky to have good weather and the sun on my side, and so I took my favourite travelling camera: my Canon EOS 500 and some expired rolls of film. When thinking of Rome I knew that I wanted a wide lens, so I could capture all the tiny streets and the all the buildings of the capital, so I also took along my Tamron 17-50 f.2/8 XR Di II LD.
Whenever I use expired rolls of film I am aware of the risk; that it is very possible that the pictures will not get to come to life in any way. But most of the time I get something unique, something that surprises me in a good way, which makes me want to use these expired films more often.
This was the first time shooting with Fujicolor Superia Reala 100 and I was very pleasantly surprised. It is in my top 3 colour films that I like to use. As the name implies, the colors are really realistic, with awesome grain and sharpness, brilliant colors without exaggerating. I love this film that captures a real, natural feel, color and clarity.
