Welcome to the winner announcement for the first and sadly only #NEOPANTASTIC of 2017.

Voting for your favourite submission of the month started on Tuesday June 13th and closed on the 18th. Over the course of those seven days we received a total of 62 votes and it was close, very close indeed. There were only four votes separating first, second and third place, with third place ending up as a tie.

As with all of these parties, the quality of submissions was incredibly hightThere were some fantastic photographs posted during post week and it was a close call. Thanks to everyone who took part and the judges and I are very much looking forward to welcoming you all back for TMAX in 2018.

So, without further adieu, lets count down from third to first place!

Here’s Shawn to tell us a little more about the photograph:

“Thank you so much for choosing my image to go into the finalists for the #NEOPANTASTIC shoot! It’s an honor to have my image be picked as the winner among such outstanding competition. I’ve been shooting more and more film this year, and I decided I needed to get more serious about my medium format work, as well as being more deliberate when shooting landscapes (I’m a PR/documentary photographer by trade, so I’m still getting into landscape work).

After getting more into the Twitter film community, I saw this event as a good time to branch out from my usual film stocks and try Acros for the first time. I live in Washington, D.C., and had yet to go to Great Falls Park just outside the city, so I packed up my gear for a short trip. I set up with my Mamiya RB67 and 50mm Sekor lens and made the image at 1 sec at f/32. Somewhere along the way of loading I had an issue with the film back and got some light leaks and I ended up with only three decent frames on the roll, but this frame turned out great with only a minor light leak that was easily burned in.

I’m lucky enough to have a community darkroom and studio nearby at Glen Echo Photoworks just outside the city, where I processed the roll in Kodak D76 1:1 for 10:30 at 20 deg C. The online image was scanned from the negative with an Epson V600 and processed in Lightroom, but I also made a large silver print in the darkroom that is now framed and hanging in my house.

I was struck by the beautiful tonality and look of Fuji Acros 100 when I first looked at the negatives on the light table, and I have found a new love for this film thanks to the event. I started shooting film seriously when I was in college back in 2004, and have always shot Kodak T-MAX for B&W work because it was what I started with, so I’m glad to have had this opportunity to find new films to appreciate. I ordered a lot more of it, and I’m looking forward to trying it for portraiture. Thank you for the inspiration, and for keeping the film community going strong! I’m looking forward to seeing the new challenges and competitions come up.”

Congratulations again to Shawn, Mike, Martina and Tom, as well as to all of you who took part shooting, posting and voting.

Although #NEOPANTASTIC is over for 2017, it will be back. In the meantime, we’re already both feet into #SummerFilmParty‘s very first post week! Head on over and check it out!

Thanks again and keep shooting, folks.
